So... do a huge amount of up front work on the scenario.
Make the possibility believable. Make the pathway believable. The less believable (more risky) it is the more you will have to give equity away. The higher the base pay will have to be.

For people familiar with Pattern Languages, the customer scenario can be though of as a localized pattern. A generic solution to a generic problem, enhanced to provide a particular solution to a particular problem. Local solution to local problem.
This suggests that creating (writing) a pattern, using a pattern template may be a useful way to begin creating your particular customer scenario.
